Frequently

Questions

How do I commission a mural?

I ask my clients to send me a photo of the room and dimensions of any walls they'd like painted, aswell as any photo references of ideas they like. If you have no clue what you'd like, I can create different mood boards based off your interests to help come up with an initial concept.

Once I have all this information, I can give you a price estimate and if that is ok with you, I can start working on the artwork. This is also the time that I can come over to see the space in person and discuss our ideas face to face if you'd rather.

As I'm based in Utrecht, I like to make sure my client is aware of my prices before taking the time to travel. Once I'm done with the design process and you've confirmed you're happy with it, we can plan a date for me to come and paint it.

If you can, make sure to let me know if there are any special factors to take in consideration (humid walls, difficult access, rough or varnished texture) to ensure the best quality mural overtime.

How much does a mural cost?

Prices vary depending on a series of things:

  • size

  • amount of detail and elements

  • unusual factors (e.g. particularly tall walls, complex textures to paint on, optical illusions, uncomfortable painting conditions (outdoor murals, ceiling murals)

  • Travel (free in Europe when painting large projects or a series of murals).

Don't forget to request a price quote ASAP as prices increase overtime as does demand/experience.

Is it safe to use the room while it's being painted?

I paint my murals with acrylic paint as this dries quickly, ressembles wall paint and has no smell. It is safe for anyone (including children) to be in the room I'm painting. Make sure it is dry however so as to not damage the artwork while I'm working on it!

When painting on walls that are in contact with a lot of sun/water or friction I apply a coat of varnish which has a strong smell. This room must be aired out for a full day at least and should be closed off until then.

Can I wash the surface you've painted on?

Cupboards, kids bedrooms, bathrooms - from time to time my clients ask me if the wall I've painted on can be washed. This is possible so long as it is not too frequent, no harsh products are used and it is cleaned with gentle motions. Varnished murals are also more resistant than those that haven't been treated.

Keep in mind this is still a painting so you need to be careful with it!

Can you travel outside of Utrecht?

I am happy to paint anywhere! Travel costs (and accommodation when I have none available in the city I'm painting in) are added to the mural costs.
