Celestial Ceiling Mural

When beginning this project, I highly underestimated it. I was fooled by the repetitive pattern in the background, thinking it would be easily done. This celestial mural, inspired by the Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal, Canada was one of my most challenging projects to date. Painted outdoors, 9m above the ground, the repetitive and precise nature of each star was, in fact, incredibly difficult for me as I usually paint in a very free, organic way.

I learnt so much whilst completing this piece and think it's one of my most effective transformations yet. I created my own stencils to help ensure that each star was shaped and distanced like the others, however I took extra care in shading each one differently so they would still feel unique somehow. By adding curves to the walls leading up to the ceiling, I wanted to create the sense that the ceiling is higher than it actually is and stopped the artwork feeling flat. Now there's something new to look at, when stepping out on the balcony to enjoy the view! Check out other murals in this home!
