The Home with Many Murals
In May 2023, I started my longest project to date. This commission started off with 5 mural projects, designed to represent this family's story overtime aswell as bring a sense of openess to a home that had no garden. These murals incuded many firsts such as painting on the balcony, on the ceiling, in the shower or even toilet! As time went on, a few extra mural projects were added along the way, each more unique than the previous one bringing us to a total of 8. Painted from May - November in Den Haag, Netherlands.

This was my first mural painted in this home, completed in the last week of May 2023. It was inspired by 19th Century trains, particularly the Orient Express. Painted in the toilet, this mural is rather unusual yet it's one of my favourite's because of all the details and convincing optical illusions. You really do feel as if you are entering a train carriage and traveling back in time. More information here.

Mural 2/8. Each hot air balloon represents a different family member as well as one larger hot air balloon, representing the entire family and their international background. Each hot air balloon is painted flying over Versailles inspired canals, a place that means a lot to them. Completed in 4 days, June 2023.

Mural 3/8 was my first ever ceiling mural! The artwork was created to act as a Winter Garden for this home that has no garden of its own. The themes were inspired by french regal interior design in the 19th century and the impressionist movement. The colour scheme was carefully chosen to match the new kitchen, inspired by La Durée which holds a special place in my client's heart. Finally, as the kitchen was being renovated, the remaining existing furniture was painted to match the room's overall theme. Completed in the summer of 2023, over the course of 3 weeks.

Mural 4/8 was inspired by the Notre Dame Basilica of Montréal, Canada. This place once again, links to my client's very international background. This mural is one of my most challenging murals ever created, due to the difficult painting conditions (on a balcony 8m above the ground), and extremely precise and repetitive details. This location for a mural however, is one of the most effective in my opinion. It adds so much character to the balcony! Completed in 8 days, September 2023. Find more information here.

Mural 5/8 was painted over an old, slightly damaged door. This was an effective way to preserve and give a second life to the existing elements of this typical dutch home. The themes that inspired this piece were the existing colours and artworks in this room, particularly Japanese prints. The techniques I used to paint this resembled those of japanse prints too. Completed in 3 days, October 2023

Mural 6/8 was designed to bring out the colours of the existing bathroom, aswell as mirror my client's collection of souvenirs from their travels. The artwork brings the feeling of a dense humid rainforest, which gives a relaxing, tropical feel to the bathroom. Completed in 2 days, October 2023.

Mural 7/8 is in the staircase leading up to the last floor of the house and the children's bedrooms. For this reason, my client wanted to bring a little piece of home away from home to them. The artwork is designed to replicate the views they would take in whilst taking the train in Vevey, with the vineyards on the left and Lac Leman on the right. 30km of their favourite views condensed into one art piece! Completed in a week, November 2023.

Mural 8/8 is on the final floor of the house, in the children's play room. The inspiration behind it was the ornaments around swiss windows but painted in a whimsical style, matching the artwork present in the space. A few details were added around the previous staircase, so as to link the two. The windows feature my client's family name and the year of their mariage, to symbolise the start of their family. Completed in 2 days, November 2023.
