Winter Garden
This piece is 1 of 8 murals I painted in a client's home. It gradually came about as my client was renovating her kitchen. The idea behind it was to create an outdoor space in this home that had no garden of its own.
Inspired by Napoleon's home, Versailles and the impressionist movement in general this piece brings and lightness and whimsical atmosphere to the room. It features dozens of insects and birds hidden amongst the roses so as to give it a better sense of depth and make it feel alive. The colour scheme is inspired by those of La Durée as this held sentimental value to my client.
As the renovation project came to an end, I painted the existing cupboards to match the rest of the kitchen. This also included bringing details from the new cupboard doors and painting them onto the existing doors as an optical illusion. This way each piece makes sense with the other, as if it had always been designed that way.
